Reflections rights

I Asked the Copyright Holders for Permission

The website is gradually growing. Since March, I have been publishing my commentaries on A.A.’s Daily Reflections, and recently English versions have appeared as well.

Then Natasha—my AI editor—unexpectedly drew my attention to something I had never seriously considered before: Daily Reflections is protected by copyright, and I regularly reproduce the full text of its entries on my website. Even though the site is non-commercial and each entry is accompanied by my substantial personal commentary and a review, the copyright holders may have perfectly legitimate questions.

So today I wrote to Alcoholics Anonymous World Services and asked them to clarify whether my current format is acceptable, whether I can obtain permission for it, how the copyright notice should be worded, and who owns the rights to the Russian translation. I also asked whether I would have to use only a short excerpt instead of the full text of each entry.

Just to be clear: no one has made any claims against me so far. I decided to ask first—before any appeared.

Now we wait for an answer. Their reply will determine what form this section of the website takes in the future.
